USA Network's American Museum of the Moving Image's Salute to Richard Gere
The American Museum of the Moving Image is dedicated to educating the public
about the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital
media and to examining their impact on culture and society. To that end, each year
the museum holds a gala event to honor an actor or actress in film. Boston Light &
Sound has been responsible for providing, installing, setting up, and operating film and audio systems for the event, beginning twenty years ago with its first tribute to director
Sidney Lumet.
The 2004 event proved to be the most challenging, as it was the first time the live event was being televised. The black tie event honoring actor and activist Richard Gere was taped for broadcast on the USA Networks.
BL&S coordinated all technical and creative functions to transform the grand ballroom of the historic Waldorf-Astoria into a fully functioning theater setting, and to provide reliable feeds for the taping. The BL&S team ensured that the presentation images were easily readable by the video cameras and audio equipment that was integrated into the stage set. Working alongside USA Networks, BL&S ensured they had a reliable interface to the video production truck.
